Introduction

The burro banana is kind of like a Lego version of the common banana! This creamy fruit is shorter, chunkier, and almost square in shape. It’s a super healthy addition to your diet, being rich in a variety of minerals.

History

All wild bananas - including the burro banana - originated in Southeast Asia and were brought into the New World by trade routes. The burro banana has been considered a superior variety to grow due to its vigorous and weather-resistant nature.

Regions

The burro banana is native to Central America and has cultivated origins in Mexico.

Flavours & Texture

Much like the common banana, the flavour and texture of the burro banana changes as it matures and ripens. At first - while the skin is green - it has a tangy and tart flavour. As it ripens and the skin turns golden yellow, it develops a creamy and sweet flavour, and the texture softens.

Preparation

We recommend eating the burro banana once it's ripened. You can simply peel away the skin and eat the flesh, just like you would a common banana.

Nutritional Value

The burro banana is rich in vitamins and minerals, including potassium.
